The Program takes approximately 1-1/2 hours, and begins with a 50-minute Central Pacific Railroad Passenger Station tour experience, circa 1876. The students find out just how very different things were "back then."

Students then move one block to the Central Pacific Freight Depot where they board a working passenger train which takes them for a 40-minute roundtrip train ride on the Museum's Sacramento Southern Railroad.

The Emigrant Train Program is suitable for Grades 4 through 6 only, and follows the California State curriculum guidelines for westward expansion, from ship and wagon train to the Transcontinental Railroad.

During March and April there are 3 different Emigrant Train Program times to choose from, and these three times are available Tuesdays and Fridays only.

9 a.m. Passenger Station tour with train ride following at 10 a.m. (concludes at 10:45 a.m.).

10 a.m. Passenger Station tour with train ride following at 11 a.m. (concludes at 11:45 a.m.).

12:30 p.m. Passenger Station tour with train ride following at 1:30 p.m. (concludes at 2:15 p.m.).

During October and mid November, there are 2 different Emigrant Train Program times to choose from, and these two times are available Tuesdays only.

The Emigrant Train Program is offered Tuesdays and Fridays March through April. Cost for the Program is $5 per person (children and adults). As always, teachers participate for free!
