Americana in Old Sacramento
Saturday - Monday, August 30 - September 1
Live music, classic cars, a railroad fire engine, caboose, old-time gas powered engines, and vintage vehicles such as 1950s-era buses, tractors and taxis will be on display.  The Central Pacific Passenger Station will be open for tours and inside you will find a vintage 19th century passenger train pulled by V&T steam locomotive No. 21 J.W. Bowker.

Smithsonian Museum Day Live
Saturday, September 27
The Museum is participating in Smithsonian magazine, "Museum Day Live,"  by offering free admission to ticket holders all day on Saturday, September 27, 2014.  Register and receive a special event ticket (good for two guests).  You must have a valid email to register.  The offer is limited to one ticket per household.  A printed ticket is needed for free entry on this special day only.    

Farm-to-Fork Celebration on the Sacramento Southern Railroad
Saturday & Sunday, September 27 & 28
Coinciding the 2nd Annual Farm-to-Fork celebration with the last weekend of regular season excursion trian rides, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy free farm-fresh pears as they exit the train.  The recreated farm-fresh scene is reminiscent of the early 1900s when the Sacramento Southern Railroad transported pears, asparagus and other products to markets from Delta communities such as Isleton, Walnut Grove, Hood and Freeport.

Tuesday Train Rides

As an expansion of the weekday train ride program for local school groups, the Museum is now offering excursion train rides to the general public on 12 select Tuesdays. Weekday train ride tickets are only available in person on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10:30 a.m. the day of the train ride at the Sacramento Southern Railroad ticket office.

Spookomotive Train Ride
Saturdays & Sundays, October 11 & 12; 18 & 19; 25 & 26
This delightful, not frightful train is just the ticket for the family.  Enjoy the train ride along the levees of the river while the "skeleton" crew passes out a special toy treat for each child.  Each weekend is specially themed: Oct. 11 & 12 - Superheroes; October 18 & 18 - Pirates & Princesses; October 25 & 26 - Witches & Wizards.  Purchase Tickets

Trains & Tripods
Friday & Saturday, October 17 & 18

The Museum and Mike's Camera in Sacramento are proud to host "Trains & Tripods," a two-part program that includes an optional seminar on shooting existing light photography in museums and a photographers-only photo session inside the Museum before it opens to the public for the day. The photography seminar is Friday evening, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. and the "bring your own tripod" photography opportunity is scheduled for Saturday, from 7:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Purchase Tickets

Veteran Day Train Rides

In honor of Veteran's Day, veterans and active military personnel can enjoy a train ride on the Sacramento Southern Railroad for free as well as free admission to the Railroad Museum. The train rides and the Museum are also open to the public at regular price.

Lobby Gallery
More than 50 steam train-themed collectible objects and related artifacts will be on display as part of this new exhibit to signify the widespread nature of railroading in popular American culture.         

Small Train Holiday
Friday & Saturday, November 28 & 29 
See a variety of locomotives that pull pretend passengers and scaled-down shipments through all kinds of scenery, whether modeled on real places or created in the imaginations of devoted collectors.  You will also get to enjoy Handcar rides, scavenger hunt and more.

Eagle Theater
Come down to Old Sacramento and visit with Santa inside the Eagle Theater.  Take a moment and share with him your holiday wishes.  Visting with Santa is free.  You can have your photo taken with Santa by a professional photographer for a fee.
