Full Steam Ahead!

California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation are pleased to announce that it is "Full Steam Ahead" to bring back into operation the steam locomotive, Granite Rock No. 10. Fundraising for the estimated $150,000 steam engine restoration project has begun -- and you can help!

The Little Steam Engine That Could
Granite Rock No. 10 first began operating on the Museum’s Sacramento Southern Railroad in 1997, following a thorough restoration project.  It pulled weekend excursion trains faithfully through summer 2011, when it was removed from service just before it’s statutory 15 years maximum of operation.  The initial expectation was that the locomotive would only require replacement of its tubes and minor maintenance in order to be recertified for another 15 years of operation, but a thorough inspection revealed thinning of the lower firebox sheets, which would require additional work and funds.

Work will begin soon in the Museum’s Restoration Shop in the Downtown Sacramento Railyards.  If you would like to help bring steam back to Old Sacramento, donations can be made to the CSRM Foundation - Granite Rock No. 10 Project, 111 “I” Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Don't wait -- you can donate online right now!
