Visitor Information



The Museum is open daily (except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day) from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.  

$10 adults; $5 youths ages 6-17; children ages 5 and under are free. Cash, personal checks, travelers' checks, Visa and Mastercard are accepted for payment. (Prices are subject to change without notice.)


The California State Railroad Museum is located at the corner of Second and "I" Streets in Old Sacramento. Click here for driving directions

A small number of limited-term, metered parking spaces are available on the streets of Old Sacramento. However, these spaces are not suitable for guests visiting longer than 90 minutes. All-day parking is available in the large public garage at the I Street entrance to Old Sacramento, for a nominal fee.

The California State Railroad Museum is fully accessible to persons with disabilities. Wherever possible, access to exhibits is facilitated by wheelchair lifts, two-way video communication systems, and our friendly staff. Certain exhibits and programs have limited accessibility, due to factors such as narrow, historic stairways and door openings on railroad passenger cars. For additional details, please contact us.

Guided tours and interpretive film screenings are offered daily. Many other opportunities abound at the Museum, including related historical attractions within Old Sacramento State Historic Park.

  • We welcome photography for personal use.
  •  Handheld flash is allowed; however, tripods and free-standing flash are not permitted for safety reasons.

  •  Trains & Tripods: A Morning for Photographers at the Museum is a special event offered at the California State Railroad Museum in coordination with its non-profit partner, the California State Railroad Museum Foundation.
